A high-alloy duplex stainless steel developed by Sandvik and Stamicarbon to withstand the corrosive environments present in the urea synthesis process. The duplex structure provides improved corrosion resistance (from the ferritic phase) and weldability (from the austenitic phase). SBN, a strategic partner of Stamicarbon, is renowned for its extensive use of Safurex® in manufacturing high-pressure equipment and components.
Besides the standard grade Safurex®, Stamicarbon and Sandvik developed two other superior corrosion resistant brands under the same brand:
- Safurex® Star
is a special super duplex material designed for use in the most demanding equipment in the HP synthesis section, such as an HP Stripper. It withstands corrosion at high temperatures.
- Safurex® Degree
is a Safurex® material manufactured by the Hot Isostatic Pressing production method. The non-directional structure avoids ‘cross-cut-end-attacks’ and improves mechanical properties at low temperature.
